Heavenly Wings – a prayer for youth
I’m thrilled to share the release of my new video titled “Heavenly Wings”—a prayer for youth. This song was originally composed for my son when he was 15, and now dedicated to all youth. They are the changemakers of our world, inspiring future generations and fostering positive change.
As the Universal House of Justice beautifully reminds us, “All must surge, but the youth must soar.”
The significance of turning 15
Turning 15 is a significant milestone on the spiritual journey of life. Bahá’u’lláh referred to it as the commencement of maturity, marking the age at which a young person begins to take on the daily practices of prayer, fasting, meditation, and the study of the Holy Writings. Through these devotional acts, one strengthens their connection with the Creator and lays the foundation for a lifetime of service.
When our son turned 15, I wondered how to make this milestone special for him. A friend suggested I compose a piece in his honor, a wonderful idea that inspired me to create “Heavenly Wings.” The lyrics are taken from two Bahá’í prayers for youth.
My favorite moment in the song
One of my favorite moments occurs at 1:46, when all the harmonies come in together to sing the word “Soar.” I wanted the melody and vocals to evoke a sense of soaring, lifting us to a higher realm as we listen.
Recording the vocals was quite an emotional experience; I was moved to tears while singing, requiring frequent pauses to catch my breath. (Crying while recording is not ideal, as it can hinder clear pronunciation!) It took considerable strength to hold back my tears—tears of joy that reminded me of how quickly time passes as my son was embarking on a new chapter of his life.
