As we begin the Bahá’í Fast, I’m excited to share a prayer that is very close to my heart. The ‘Fasting Prayer,’ one of my favorites for this time, was recorded spontaneously with my son when he turned 15.  Since then, several words in the prayer have been re-translated and I’m delighted to share this updated version with you.

The symbolism of transformation

The video for the Fast illustrates the transformation of a caterpillar into a butterfly. Just as this metamorphosis signifies growth and renewal, I find that the Bahá’í Fast is a special time for us to transform and improve ourselves spiritually.

It offers an opportunity to reflect on our lives, cultivate inner strength, and deepen our connection with our faith. This period encourages us to let go of old habits and embrace positive changes, much like the butterfly emerges from its cocoon, ready to take flight.

How the song was composed

One day, I heard him playing beautiful guitar chords he had composed, which inspired us to create the song together. As he played, I sang a melody spontaneously as we were recording the piece.  It was a deeply moving experience.
